Online Ad Spending to Overtake TV Ads Spending in UK97
vote
Online ad spending is due to out pace TV ad spending in the UK by the end of '09 according to a study by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), the UK online advertising trade body, in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers and the World Advertising Research Centre. Britain may have one of the most developed online advertising market in the world. It is estimated to be worth 2.8 billion pounds ($5.6 billion) in 2007. If the studies prediction is correct the UK will become the first major economy to see advertisers spend more on the Internet than on TV ads The study cites cheap laptops, TV re-runs, high speed connections, growth in the number of users, and the popularity of social networking sites as the key drivers for growth. Could this be a sign of things to come in the US? I don't think it will happen any time soon. The US has a strong TV presence with many more channels and content than the UK designed to keep us occupied. American's are really TV/movie junkies. It is not out of the question though for online ads to one day over take tv ads. Especially as the Internet matures and the lines between TV and Internet blur. We'll start to see advertisers adapt to the changing landscape with new types of very targeted advertisements being pushed down upon us consumers in a much more methodical way. Thing like ads on mobile devices will become commonplace. The growth of just the number of device that can access online content will far out pace the number of TVs we own thereby increasing the mediums advertisers can use to reach us. It is really only a matter of time... Stacynu _____________________ If you enjoyed this posting please subscribe to our RSS feed or submit it to your favorite social networks. |
