Linux XP 2008

If you're looking to transition from Windows to Linux but your users are not technically inclined you may want to evaluate Linux XP Desktop 2008. Linux XP tries to emulate the look and feel of Microsoft Windows. The goal being to make the transition to Linux easier for those used to Microsoft like operating systems.

Unlike Linspire and Xandros, which are both based on Debian, Linux XP is derived from Fedora. It runs on a highly modified version of GNOME to create a very Windows like experience. In Linux XP manifesto they claim that Linux XP is not a 'cheap copycat product' but rather a mature and stable 'ready-to-migrate' system.

Looking at some of the new features they should have called this version Linux "Vista" since it looks like it emulates Vista more than XP.

It does have some nice features though.
Features:
1) Full NTFS support
2) A migrator that allows to transfer e-mail, browser bookmarks, ICQ/MSN adjustments, and documents
3) Advanced control and network configuration panel
4) Enhancements on Evolution that make it feel/look more like Outlook
5) Prepackaged software bundles needed for most business environments.
6) Enhanced package manager for software installation/uninstalls.

Definitely worth a look if you're considering a mass migration of a Windows shop to Linux only.
